Purpose:
Manages and directs the functions of the Medical Staff Office including credentialing, clinical privileges, medical staff bylaws, accreditation, medical staff committees, confidential records and data bases, applicable laws and regulations and coordination of Medical Staff and Mid-Level Provider Staff.
This position will have responsibility for both East and McKeesport and will oversee telephone operators.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains medical staff office policies and procedures.
- Actively participates in professional organizations, as well as continuing education activates along with strict perusal of printed materials in order to keep abreast of changes in requirements of the Joint Commission, DOH, the National Practitioner Data Bank and other regulatory agencies.
- Directs the maintenance of confidential personal records and databases on physicians and allied health professionals including quality assurance information and contracted services.
- Plans, organizes, manages and directs all aspects of the administrative function of the Medical Staff Office including pre-application, credentialing and re-credentialing (reappointment) for the Medical Staff and Mid-Level Provider Staff. Ensures compliance with primary verification, Joint Commission, DOH and National Data Bank requirements.
- Coordinates the Medical Staff orientation process, including new Medical Staff officers to credentialing, clinical privileges, committee proceedings, and hospital services.
- Directs and manages all medical staff office activities including medical staff committees and meeting minutes.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of the Board Policy on Medical Staff Appointment and Clinical Privileges and the Medical Staff Bylaws to support and advise medical staff and its officers in managing the Medical Staff.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations, Joint Commission and DOH medical staff requirements and Risk Management requirements for physicians and mid-level providers. Coordinates the medical staff Joint Commission and other accreditation programs as they relate to physicians, mid-level providers, and the medical staff.
- Directs, manages and evaluates the Medical Staff office employees.
- Collaborate with diverse entitles including physicians, Mid-level Providers, physician office staff, managed care organizations, state license boards, National Practitioner Data Bank and training institutions.
- Manages the maintenance of accurate clinical privileges information on physicians and mid-level providers.
- Manages the Medical Staff Fund.
- Collaborate with the Central Verifications Office to ensure timely credentialing and recredentialing for Medical Staff and Mid-Level Providers. Maintain MSO database.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Business Administration is preferred; or equivalent on the job experience in managing a Medical Staff Office.
- Minimum of five years of administrative experience.
- Ability to handle interactions and establish and maintain effective relationships and communications with diverse entitles including individual physicians, Mid-Level Providers and a broad range of agencies and organizations.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and adhere to established policies even under pressure of coercion.
- Managerial skills to oversee subordinates and to manage office.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws applicable to the Medical Staff Office.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation and State Department of Health licensure requirements.
