Applications are invited for the position of Chief, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Unity Health Toronto. The anticipated start date is June 1, 2025 or as mutually agreed upon. This appointment is for a five-year term renewable upon successful review.
St. Joseph’s Health Centre (SJHC) is a community teaching hospital serving Toronto’s west end and beyond. The hospital is a vital resource for people at all life stages, offering obstetric care, specialized paediatric services, family medicine, older adults and more. St. Joseph’s is one of three main sites of Unity Health Toronto, a Catholic health care organization accredited with exemplary standing by Accreditation Canada. Unity Health’s services span the City of Toronto and range from primary care to highly specialized care for complex medical cases, post-acute care, rehabilitation, palliative and long-term care. The SJHC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to providing compassionate, high quality care that values women’s choices, and prioritizes accessibility, equity, and inclusivity for our communities. We are composed of 11 full time obstetrician/gynecologists, including 4 subspecialists trained in advanced pelvic and minimally invasive surgery. The Department also includes 15 Family Physicians and 30 Midwives who provide low risk obstetrical care. There are approximately 2900 deliveries yearly with capacity for growth. The gynecologists have access to specialized minimally invasive surgical suites. The hospital is working to enhance surgical care through the advancement of a surgical robotics program. There is a terrific opportunity for the successful candidate to support the development of the Department and its members to best meet patient needs. SJHC has a Level 2C NICU that provides high-level care for babies born at 30 weeks gestation and over. The Pediatric Department has 2 full time neonatologists on staff. As part of Unity Health and in collaboration with Maternal Fetal Medicine partners at St. Michael’s (SMH), we are able to provide specialized care to our high-risk obstetrical population. The SJHC Department excels in medical education and is a sought after center for training. Our trainees include medical students, family medicine residents and fellows, and Ob/Gyn residents. We also offer a one year Fellowship in Advanced Gynecological Surgery. Collaboration with SMH allows for cross-site training and research opportunities.
SJHC seeks an outstanding practicing clinician and skilled teacher with proven administrative experience and strong leadership skills, who as Chief of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, will continue to foster excellence in patient care services and teaching. The successful candidate must hold an MD degree and must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario and must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or higher in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University of Toronto.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
